Project Context
Kira’s existing asphalt roof had reached the end of its serviceable life, making replacement the best long-term option. Rather than installing new shingles over the existing roof structure, the project was approached as an opportunity to improve the roof from the deck upward.
Vantage Roofing removed the existing roofing materials, inspected the roof deck, and installed new 1/2-inch plywood sheathing over the original dimensional lumber deck. This created a stronger and more consistent foundation for the new roofing system.
The completed project included a full Malarkey Roofing System with upgraded waterproofing, ventilation, flashing, and roof-penetration details.
The primary challenge was replacing an aging roof while improving the underlying structure and overall performance of the roofing assembly.
The existing dimensional lumber deck required careful evaluation before the new system could be installed. Simply replacing the visible roofing materials would not have addressed the opportunity to create a more uniform and reliable substrate.
The project also required improvements to several critical components, including ice and water protection, roof-edge flashing, plumbing and B-vent flashings, exhaust ventilation, and gable-end detailing. Each element needed to work together to provide dependable protection against the elements.

Our team began by safely setting up the work area and protecting the property with groundsheets. We then removed and disposed of the existing asphalt roofing materials before conducting a comprehensive inspection of the roof deck.
To create a solid, uniform substrate, we installed new 1/2-inch plywood sheathing over the existing dimensional lumber deck. We then installed the complete Malarkey roofing system, including:

Throughout the installation, we paid close attention to waterproofing, ventilation, flashing, and finishing details. A dump trailer was used for debris removal, and the property was left clean following a final sweep, rake, and magnetic nail cleanup.
Kira now has a complete roofing system built on a stronger foundation and designed for reliable performance through every season. The new plywood sheathing provides a more consistent base, while the upgraded waterproofing, flashing, ventilation, and premium Malarkey shingles work together to improve the roof’s durability and weather resistance.
