Delivering a High‑Performance Asphalt Shingle Roofing System from Deck to Shingles

5180 Winskill Drive, Delta, BC V4M 2C8

In this case study, Angela invests in a full roof rebuild to replace worn shingles, reinforce the deck, and upgrade weather protection for long‑term performance.

Project Context

Angela’s Delta home was showing clear signs of wear on the existing asphalt roof, including aging shingles and compromised underlayment. Rather than patching or delaying, she decided it was the right time to invest in a complete re‑roofing and system‑wide upgrade.

The scope included a full tear‑off of the old asphalt roofing, reinforcement of the roof deck, installation of high‑performance underlayment, premium Malarkey shingles, and comprehensive flashing and ventilation upgrades. The goal was to improve structural integrity, enhance weather resistance, and extend the life of the roof while maintaining a clean, professional appearance around the property.

The Challenge

Angela’s project was more than a simple shingle replacement; it required rebuilding the entire roofing system from the deck up. The existing structure needed reinforcement, and several critical areas—such as the chimney, wall transitions, and roof penetrations—required modern flashing and detailing to meet current performance standards.

The challenge lay in coordinating multiple layers—decking, underlayment, ice‑and‑water protection, shingles, flashing, and vents—so that each component worked in harmony. Ensuring proper ventilation, avoiding water‑entry points at flashing details, and maintaining a tidy worksite throughout the project demanded careful planning and execution.

Why The Client Chose Us?

Angela selected Vantage Roofing Ltd. because of the company’s reputation for handling detailed, full‑scope roofing projects with precision. She valued a contractor who focused on the complete roofing system—not just the visible shingles—but also deck reinforcement, flashing, and ventilation.

She also appreciated our transparent communication and clear explanations of each step in the process. Knowing that her extensive upgrade would be handled from start to finish by a consistent, experienced crew gave her the confidence to move forward with the project.

How We Responded?

Vantage Roofing Ltd. approached Angela’s roof with a system‑first mindset. The team began by removing and properly disposing of the old asphalt roofing materials, then installing 3/8″ plywood across the entire roof deck to strengthen the foundation.

Next, a high‑performance 30 lb synthetic underlayment was installed, followed by Malarkey Smart Start starter shingles at the eaves and rakes. Premium Malarkey Vista® AR shingles were then applied across the main roof surfaces, with Malarkey RidgeFlex® hip and ridge shingles topping off the ridges.

At the same time, the team upgraded all critical flashings and penetrations:

Chimney re‑flashing with new back pan, wall flashing, and step flashing

Premium lead plumbing flashings

New B‑vents with collars and goose‑neck vents

Diverters at all gable ends

Reinforcement of all roof protrusions with peel‑and‑stick underlayment

New 26‑gauge drip edges on all gables

Installation of three sections of wall flashing and six sections of gump lip

Throughout the project, groundsheets protected the property, a dedicated disposal bin kept debris contained, and a full site cleanup ensured Angela’s yard and surrounding areas were left neat and undamaged. We also provided a 10‑year Vantage Roofing Ltd. workmanship warranty for added peace of mind.

The Results?

The completed project delivered a fully upgraded roofing system that combines structural strength, enhanced weather resistance, and long‑term reliability. Angela’s home is now better protected against rain, wind, and temperature extremes, with a modern, cohesive roof line that improves overall curb appeal.

Beyond the physical improvements, Angela gained confidence in her home’s long‑term performance. The attention to detail in flashing, ventilation, and deck reinforcement means the roof is designed to last for many years, aligning with her goal of maintaining a strong, well‑protected property.
