Project Context
Al’s Delta home had an existing asphalt roof that had reached the end of its service life and needed full replacement. Beyond shingle replacement, the project scope included a comprehensive deck inspection, synthetic underlayment, Malarkey Smart Start starter shingles, Malarkey Vista AR shingles, and Malarkey RidgeFlex hip and ridge shingles. The work also covered new 26‑gauge metal valley flashings and drip edges, plus property protection measures such as groundsheets, a dump trailer for debris, and a final sweep, rake, and magnetic nail cleanup.
The main challenge was twofold: the roof needed replacement, and the existing ventilation setup was no longer ideal. Old box vent openings had to be properly closed and integrated into the new deck, while a more intentional intake–exhaust strategy was needed to improve airflow and moisture management year‑round. Addressing these items during the re‑roof allowed the ventilation improvements to be correctly integrated with the new roofing system from the start.

Our team removed the existing asphalt roofing, inspected the exposed deck, and then began the new installation with high‑performance 30lb synthetic underlayment. For ventilation, we modified and sheeted in the previous box vent openings, installed new air intake strips in three designated areas, and added ridge venting to create a balanced intake–exhaust path. We completed full chimney re‑flashing (new backpan, wall, and step flashing), installed new B‑vents with collars, lead plumbing flashings, goose‑neck vents, and diverters at all gable ends, and reinforced penetrations with peel‑and‑stick underlayment. The Malarkey Vista AR system was finished with Smart Start starter shingles and RidgeFlex hip and ridge shingles, with property protection and thorough cleanup throughout.
Al now has a fully renewed Malarkey Vista roofing system with ventilation improvements that go beyond the shingles themselves. The revised ventilation arrangement provides better balance between intake and exhaust airflow, while new flashing and reinforced penetration details strengthen protection at vulnerable areas such as the chimney, plumbing stacks, and roof edges. With the old roofing removed, ventilation updated, chimney re‑flashed, and the new system installed from the deck upward, the home is better prepared for reliable seasonal performance—and the installation is backed by Vantage Roofing Ltd.’s 10‑Year Workmanship Warranty.
