Innovative Solutions for a Rodent and Insect-Free Home

6292 Alderwood Lane, Delta, BC V4E 3E8

In this case study, Vantage Roofing Ltd tackles the unique challenge of sealing his balcony against pests, emphasizing safety and aesthetic harmony in his home.

Michael, a previous client of Vantage Roofing Ltd, reached out to us with a concern regarding his second-floor balcony. The open area had become a gateway for rodents and insects, posing a significant problem to the cleanliness and safety of his home. Understanding the need for a robust solution, Michael entrusted us once again to address this challenge.

The Challenge

The primary challenge presented by this project was to enclose the balcony effectively to block any access points for rodents and insects, without compromising the aesthetic appeal of the home. This required a detailed assessment and a creative approach to ensure the enclosure blended seamlessly with the existing structure while providing the necessary protection.

Why The Client Chose Us?

Michael chose Vantage Roofing Ltd for this project based on our previous successful engagement. Last year, we performed roofing work for him that exceeded his expectations in quality and service. Our proven track record and his positive experience with our team made us the obvious choice for this unique challenge.

How We Responded?

Our approach began with a thorough assessment of the balcony to understand the specific requirements of the project. We then devised a comprehensive plan that included:

  • Removing the shingles and cedar siding from the affected area.
  • Framing and sheeting the upper portion of the roof with 0.5-inch plywood.
  • Creating a positive slope for the dead valley to ensure proper drainage.
  • Applying EPDM rubber fully adhered to the entire area for waterproofing.
  • Tying in the EPDM rubber to the roof with new shingles for seamless protection.
  • Installing all new siding above the rubber, complemented with two coats of matching paint to enhance aesthetics.
  • Incorporating a new vent in the existing roof to maintain airflow.

Our solution was designed not only to enclose the space effectively but also to ensure it was aesthetically pleasing and in harmony with the home’s overall look.

The Results?

The project was a resounding success. The second-floor balcony is now fully enclosed, eliminating any entry points for rodents and insects. More importantly, the aesthetic aspect of the enclosure was carefully considered and executed, resulting in a beautiful addition to Michael’s home. This project underscored Vantage Roofing Ltd’s commitment to providing tailored solutions that meet our clients’ needs while maintaining the integrity and beauty of their homes.
