Project Context
Colin & Mun’s home in Richmond was protected by an old cedar roof that had reached the end of its lifespan. The shingles were weathered and past their protective capacity, and the roof deck plywood showed signs of wear. They wanted not only a new shingle system but also added features—specifically six skylights—to improve natural light inside their home.
The project was substantial, requiring more than five full working days to complete. To take advantage of a rare stretch of dry summer weather, the work needed to be planned and executed without delay. Any unexpected rain could halt progress and extend the timeline, affecting both cost and convenience for the homeowners.

Roof Deck Preparation: We removed the old cedar shingles and inspected the roof deck, installing new plywood where needed to ensure a solid, even base.
Shingle Installation: We installed Malarkey Vista AR shingles, known for their durability and algae resistance, to give the home a long-lasting finish.
Skylight Integration: We cut precise openings and fitted six new skylights, ensuring each was properly flashed and sealed to prevent leaks.
Gutter and Downpipe Upgrade: We replaced the existing downpipes and added new, efficient drainage components to handle heavy rainfall.
Fascia Work: We removed the old fascia boards, replaced any damaged sections, and applied a fresh coat of paint to tie the look together.
Colin & Mun now have a brand-new Malarkey Vista AR roof that will protect their home for decades. The added skylights bring in natural light, enhancing the interior ambiance, while the updated downpipes and fascia ensure proper water management. Completing the work during a summer weather window meant the project stayed on schedule and avoided costly weather delays.
